The Terrace Motels & 10 Cottages in Franz Josef is a locally owned and operated family business on the South Island’s West Coast. Allan and Michelle have owned the business since September 2020.
Allan was born and raised in Greymouth so is a real Wester Coaster. He started his working life in his father’s bakery in Greymouth and throughout his career his baking background took him to many parts of the world including Hokitika, Blenheim, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Singapore (2), Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Indonesia, London and Philippines.
Allan also loved his sport mainly cricket and rugby, when he gave the game away, he went onto join the West Coast referees, during his time overseas he refereed in Singapore he went onto referee tournaments in Thailand, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. |

Michelle was born and raised in the Philippines and is used to living in a busy city life, but it all changed when she moved to Franz Josef with her husband Allan.
She enjoys the beauty of nature, the trees in the forest with the moss showing the age of the trees. The sounds of the birds, the waterfalls cascading down the mountains, and the snow and ice on the glaciers is like icing on a cake especially in the winter time.
Another highlight for her is going on helicopter rides with a snow landing and the food in the restaurants of Franz Josef.
She considers herself lucky to get to live in a small paradise called Franz Josef.
